The Department of Construction Management is proud to announce the appointment of Dr Mohlomi Raliile as the new Construction Health and Safety Management lecturer, effective from 15 February 2024. Dr Raliile is well known to the department having fulfilled a role as a contract lecturer for Risk Management, Environmental Management and Health and Safety Management modules on the MSc Built Environment Programme previously.

CIB is pleased to welcome John Smallwood as joint co-ordinator of WG123 – People in Construction. John will work alongside current co-ordinator Fidelis Emuze of the Central University of Technology, Free State, South Africa.

  
 
 
Nelson Mandela University Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) consultant Damian Mooney’s commitment to education has led him to serve as South Africa's drone expert and mentor for students participating in both the BRICS Future Skills and World Skills competitions from 2018 to 2023. 

The Department of Construction Management is proud to advise that Professor Fidelis Emuze, a Research Associate in our Department', has been appointed as the new 'Editor in Chief: Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) – Management, Procurement and Law'.

Simamnkele Ngxesha, Prof John Smallwood, and Dineo Maluleke. Simamnkele, Dineo, and Xolela Mkaka (not featured) are the first three BSc (Honours) (Construction Health and Safety Management) graduates to graduate from this unique new programme, a first on the continent of Africa.

The Department of Construction Management, Nelson Mandela University, graduated four PhD (Construction Management) graduates on 25 April 2023.

An association for women in the Built Environment launched on Friday, 29 April 2022. Their inaugural event was a site visit to the WBHO site at the Boardwalk Mall Phase II and guided by WBHO's representatives, Mr Jacques Nortje and Mr Lenel Oosthuizen.

The global pandemic has put the spotlight on Nelson Mandela University’s research into indoor air quality.
An extremely successful Construction Management 50th Anniversary Conference was hosted by the Department on 15th and 16th November 2021. Titled ‘The Next 50 years’, the conference comprised both a Scientific Day and an Industry Day to cater to a more diverse range of interested parties.
The Department of Construction Management at Nelson Mandela University has become home to a new biannual Journal, the 1st to be housed in the department in this the 50th year of presentation of the BSc Construction Management programme.
Two Nelson Mandela University Department of Construction Management staff recently achieved honours at an International Conference held at the Leeds Sustainability Institute based at Leeds Beckett University in England. Ashvin Manga, a MSc Construction Management student and his supervisor, Mr Chris Allen, lecturer in Building Science (Environment & Services), presented the paper: Leveraging computer vision for improved facility management, at the SEEDS International Conference 2021, winning the Smart and Sustainable Digital Innovation Award.
